What does the treatment involve?

Botulinum toxin A can be gently injected into selected areas around the head and neck. The goal is to reduce the number of migraine days and the intensity of the attacks, giving you more control over your daily life.

The treatment is intended for you with chronic migraine, where the Swedish Headache Society recommends Botulinum toxin A for:

• • At least 15 days of headaches each month
  • At least 8 of these with migraine-like character
  • Symptoms that have lasted for more than three months

For this to be relevant, you also need to have tried other preventive treatments without sufficient improvement and documented your headaches in a headache diary. The effect builds up gradually and is usually noticeable after a few treatment sessions. With regular follow-up, we can evaluate the results together and adjust your treatment over time.

The treatment process – step by step

1. 1. Medical consultation: You will meet with a neurologist with a subspecialty in migraine and migraine surgery who will make a thorough assessment and develop an individual treatment plan.
   2. The treatment: The injections are given according to a proven schedule at several points on the forehead, temples, back of the head and neck. The needles are very thin, and the treatment usually takes about 20–30 minutes. Most people return to their daily activities immediately afterwards.
   3. Follow-up: The treatment is usually repeated every twelve weeks for the best effect. We will follow up on the results together, adjust if necessary and create a long-term plan to ensure you achieve the best possible relief.

Safety and security

Botulinum toxin A is a well-studied and safe treatment when administered by a medically trained professional. The most common side effects are mild and temporary, such as slight tenderness or a feeling of heaviness in the treated area. These symptoms usually resolve within a short time.
