Hybrid breast augmentation
A breast augmentation where fat is sucked out, from a part of the body where there is too much, and injected into the breasts may be exactly what you want. This gives a larger bust with a natural appearance. For those women who want a fuller upper pole and want to reduce the “ski slope” that is often present, this is not a good technique. To achieve greater fullness in the upper part of the breasts, silicone implants are needed. However, some women do not think that an appearance with a clear and visible implant is the result they want. This is the reason why the implants are placed under the pectoralis major muscle and also that teardrop-shaped/anatomical implants are used. A development of this method is to do a so-called hybrid breast augmentation. In this operation, a smaller size of silicone implant is used together with the body's own fat, which gives a natural appearance but with a full upper pole.
This is how the operation works
Before the operation, your surgeon marks where the silicone implant will be placed in the same way as with a regular breast augmentation. In addition, the fat will be placed and finally where the fat will be removed. A big advantage of this operation is that you get rid of some of the excess fat that you have on the inside of your knees and thighs, on your stomach or your “love handles” on the sides. The operation is done under anesthesia, which means that you are asleep during the entire operation, which takes about 1.5-2.5 hours. The fat that is sucked out is handled very carefully so that the fat cells survive the transfer. Despite this very careful handling, only about 60-70% of the fat cells survive and remain while the rest are broken down by the body. In most cases, this gives a good enough result without the need for a new operation, but sometimes another new operation with more fat that is transferred can give an even better result. This is entirely your decision.
Risks and complications
Usual
- More fat than expected is broken down by the body
- Swelling and bruising
Unusual
- Capsule formation around the implant
- Rupture of the implant
- Infection in the implant cavity
- Irregularities where the fat has been sucked out
Very unusual
- ALCL
Follow-up
One week after your surgery you will return for a first visit to us and after another week you will come for a new visit to our nurse who will check that it is healing properly. After about 3 months you can evaluate how much of the fat has survived and what the result looks like. After about 6-12 months you will return for a final check-up to your plastic surgeon
Convalescence
During the first 2-3 weeks, you should not expose your breasts to pressure such as sleeping on your stomach or wearing a bra that is too tight. All of this is done so that as many fat cells as possible survive. Avoid hard training and physical activity for the first 4-6 weeks. During the first week, a slightly stronger painkiller is usually needed, but after a week, regular Panodil/Alvedon is usually enough. Where the fat has been sucked out, some women feel a burning pain that can last for a couple of weeks before it disappears.
