Treatment of rosacea
Rosacea is a chronic inflammatory skin condition that occurs more often in women than men. The symptoms usually begin in middle age or later and can flare up in episodes.
There are different types of rosacea. The most common form, papulopustular rosacea, often causes acne-like rashes on the cheeks, nose, forehead and chin. Another variant, erythematous rosacea, causes a noticeable general redness of the face. Long-term severe rosacea can lead to the nose becoming enlarged and uneven, known as rhinophyma . This is due to the skin's sebaceous glands growing excessively.
The exact cause of rosacea is not known, but there is often a hereditary factor. The blood vessels in the face become hypersensitive to things happening both inside and outside the body. Circulation increases and contributes to inflammation. Trigger factors can play a role in triggering or worsening rosacea, the most common of which are sun, spicy foods, stress, alcohol and heat.
We offer several different types of local and systemic treatment that are adapted depending on the type of rosacea you have. Since rosacea is chronic, you may need treatment for a long time. Rhinophyma can be treated very successfully with carbon dioxide laser, which is done by a dermatologist under local anesthesia.
