Acne

The skin contains sebaceous glands that produce sebum, which is our natural skin softener. Acne occurs when the sebaceous glands in the skin produce more sebum than is needed, while the duct from which the sebaceous gland empties, the so-called duct, is too narrow. The sebaceous gland then becomes enlarged and inflammation can then occur. Hereditary factors play an important role in the onset of acne, but other factors can also trigger or worsen the condition, such as certain medications, chemicals, cosmetics and hormonal disorders.

Acne can occur at any age but is most common in adolescence. Acne often occurs on the face, chest or back where the most sebaceous glands are located.

We offer different types of local treatment, such as azelaic acid and adapalene, but also systemic treatments in the form of long-term antibiotics or vitamin A derivatives (Isotretinoin).
